Gibbon Chapter LIII: The Byzantine Empire in the Tenth Century

A mercifully shorter chapter at 44 pages, compared to the epic length of some recent ones, very largely drawn from the works of Constantine VII Porphyrogenitus, and describing in detail the functioning of the court and culture of the Byzantine empire of the ninth century.

  1. I really loved Torchwood despite not being a Who fan at all. It stood on its own for me.

You probably already know this, but there was a DVD extra of some variety about the music for Torchwood, and the composer said that the rhythm he used for the brilliant scene where Jack comes bursting in on the tractor was based on someone saying “Here he comes, on a bloody great tractor!” 🙂
