Russian Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov is surprised at Georgia’s permanent attention to Russia’s possible attack on terrorists in the Pankisi Gorge. “The Georgian leadership keeps discussing this issue although we have never mentioned Georgia as our target. It means that an uneasy conscience betrays itself,” Mr. Ivanov said. (from Novosti)
I suspect that rather than having uneasy consciences (though Ivanov actually used the much more colourful phrase “На воре шапка горит”, “the thief is the one whose big furry hat is on fire”) the Georgians may just be worried about the Russians attacking their territory because it already happened in August 2002, although the international community successfully pretended they didn’t know who was flying in from the north to bomb Georgian villages. Just a thought.
Thinking of you. Hope things are better soon, and glad to hear that you’ve got support.
