Macedonian referendum

News in from Macedonia: turnout very low in the referendum today – I hear figures of a mere 27%. This is Good News. It may seem a bit obscure to most of you, but I hope the pieces I wrote before the referendum was called and immediately after are enlightening.

  1. Katherine Burdekin in particular is a terrifically interesting writer. Sometimes published as ‘Murray Constantine’; sometimes her first name is spelled ‘Katharine’. Swastika Night is probably her most well-known book and was a Left Book Club choice in 1940. There are marked similarities between it and Nineteen Eighty-Four. The edition edited by Daphne Patai has an excellent introduction by her (Patai).
