I just read a German children’s book to my daughter of 8. It’s called “Connie und die Detektive” (reminding some readers of “Emil und die Detektive”…) and is a rather mass-market, one-in-a-series-of-20-books book of about 120 pages. And – wait for it – one of the cases the young detectives solve involves a “Marder” chewing up the innards of the unfriendly neighbour’s car. Who mistakenly had assumed vandalism or worse (what if the brake fluid line had been chewed?).
So, I guess there are still some cultural differences around, even in Western Europe…
Daniel (I’m afraid you don’t know me… though I have been lurking and reading your blog for some time…)
