Just had a note from a Serious Academic Journal who spotted one of my recent reviews and want to publish a cut-down version of it!
My favourite moment from the reporting of Recent Events was an interview with a very eloquent Arab journalist, in which the BBC man asked him whether what had been happening reminded him of any similar occurrences in Europe – clearly expecting the answer “1989”.
The man thought for a moment, and then replied, “I suppose the obvious parallel would be 1848.”
I don’t know why this made me laugh, but make me laugh it did.
