Not so bad really

Am rather pleased with myself. I lost an awful lot of sleep last night thanks to Bridget, and had vast amounts of work to do before leaving for Macedonia tomorrow. But two and a half years ago, I was in the same position – had vast amounts to do, and lost sleep due to Bridget, and off to Macedonia with none of it done. This time I have actually managed to push the reports on Mitrovica, Nagorno-Karabakh and (most difficult) Bosnia on to the next stage of the process, plus had a confrontation with the international officials we criticise in one of those reports during the course of today. I still have three more draft reports to read on the plane tomorrow, but I feel much more in control than I did in June 2003. Whether that’s due to reading and internalising the many self-help books I’ve read since then, or whether it’s just greater maturity, I don’t know, but it’s a relief anyway.
