That review was — interesting. I enjoyed the book & its sequels greatly. I was interested in the comment to the other review which mentioned Leiber’s Ill Met in Lankhmar, which I recently re-read with great pleasure. The 2 do seem to hit many if the same buttons. Engaging rogues, magic, really interesting world. I’m not saying either is great literature, mind you, but loads of enjoyable entertainment. Which is an accomplishment not to be disdained. I think that that review was a result of one of two things. Either a bad fit between book & reviewer or, as all too often happens, a reviewer determined to fault anything hyped.
