Those are indeed fascinating.
Re the different colours of the trees – I think the main difference is that the 3DS colours are a lot more saturated than those from your ipad (and the exposure’s a bit darker as well).
Getting colours right can be a nightmare. I took some photos a while back of a Highland dancing session in a room lit by fluorescent tubes which weren’t even all exactly the same colour (and can flicker in colour in sync with the mains just to add to the fun).
