The sceptic article is a good take-down of Dawkins and his ilk, but it takes its subject in an extremely (one might even say dogmatically) narrow sense.
“Skeptics are people who believe in the primacy of the scientific method as a source of knowledge.”
This is simply not so. The writer appears not to have heard of Pyrrho, Sextus Empiricus, Montaigne, or the whole ancient and Renaissance tradition of scepticism, which flourished long before the scientific method was a twinkle in Bacon’s eye and certainly wouldn’t have regarded it as the royal road to truth in this way. How the word “scepticism” became attached to the so-called sceptical movement is a mystery to me.
