I liked everything in the film pretty well except the duelling cranes, which I thought were silly and tedious; however my 11 year old son thought they were fantastic and he is probably closer to the film’s target audience. 3D motion capture has come a very long way since Polar Express or Beowulf, and there were some fantastic scenes that could not have been done in live action with any number of stuntmen. I have never been a great Tintin fan, for reasons which I now realise may have had something to do with the Bechdel count of the original.
I thought that the filmmakers were very brave deciding not to knock too many edges off Haddock’s alcoholism.
Overall we thought it a very good family film to see; we think the sour old goats at the Guardian have largely missed the point.
