A rather grand job is being advertised in NATO. I emailed my senior contact there (who indeed previously did that job) and said that it looked awfully interesting, but I wan’t sure I had enough experience. He replied,
Simply put, nothing ventured, nothing gained. The position has been readvertised because Sec Gen is seeking a range of new candidates and so the field is wide open. So give it a try.
So I think I will.
Indeed. I no longer have a direct professional interest in this one though obviously I continue to follow it for all those reasons. As you will recall, I used to be very much involved with this issue and oversaw the production of ICG’s first two reports on the topic in 2005; their main author took over from me when I left ICG in 2007 and has now in her turn produced another three reports on the subject including yesterday’s, so requests for collaboration should be directed to her.
