The Guardian’s subtitle includes the words “feeding herself and her son for £10 a week”. Any reader who didn’t start with nwhyte’s link would read those words before they got to the bit in smaller type about the lentils. If readers are able to think that a person feeding a small child and herself for that sum of money is being a “chooser”… well then, yes, then it was not the best photo caption, but I’m not sure what tag line would get through to people like that.
