My heart broke too. The turmoil you must be experiencing must be overwhelming. I am so sorry. Thank you for all your thoughtful posts on the EU; they did help me counteract some of the more stupid and egregious lies, even if it were not enough.
ETA: And by not enough, I mean not enough on my part to convince my Leave-voting in-laws to change. They have uncritically read the Daily Mail since 1997 and I have seen this hardening of hatred and bigotry in them since then. Poverty and living in a deprived area do not apply to their reasons for voting that way; they are well-off and living in oh-so-nice country villages.
