Have you looked at the Wikipedia talk page for the Battle of Karánsebes? It is probably at least as interesting as the article, and much of it is rather better sourced. The “battle” fairly obviously never took place as described (and, at least on the Austrian side, does not seem to have been described as a battle at the time) – but the contemporary sources from 1788 indicate a rather shambolic Austrian retreat which included a friendly fire incident, which then got heavily embroidered (and probably somewhat reordered) over the next few decades, in sources that would usually be regarded as reliable (but clearly are not particularly reliable on this topic. It’s a pity that nobody has tried rewriting the article from the identified sources – I might have a go myself, but suspect that it will prove almost impossible to do without getting accused of “original research” and “synthesis”.
