I liked this one a lot, much for the same reason as you– the fantastic characterization of Harry Sullivan. I need to pull it out again sometime; I remember rather rushing through the end and finding it slightly confusing as a result.
The use of magic is pretty consistent with the run of eighth Doctor adventures in fits in with, and there’s an in-story reason for it, as I imagine you’ll find out someday.
