My knowledge of African affairs boils down to listening to From our Own Correspondent, for the most part, and even I’ve known who Cony was for years – so this “sudden fame” baffles me, rather, too. (Next week, “Saudi Women Not Allowed to Drive Shock”?) The assumption that bad publicity in itself is enough to change the world suggests a certain disconnect with the world of those whose power depends on neither voters nor customers.
