I think it does, but I don’t think it’s a geographical space: I think it’s a social space, or spaces, and one of them is what we call fandom. And if you looked closely I suspect pretty much the whole arts world as well.
I think that once subsistence is provided for, sufficiently connected social groups create purposes for their members, and that remuneration for those purposes is secondary.
There is a whole separate set of issues around how you provide ‘subsistence’ for people, given that what is needed for subsistence varies so widely.
