Second paragraph of third chapter:

Adelaide, symmetrical as ever, dressed in her simple, perfect pastels, sat down in the chair opposite Janet, pushed a tin of biscuits across the table and smiled. ‘Would you like a biscuit? I’ve got these delightful, simply delightful ginger creams from a local baker. I do like to support local small businesses, don’t you? And I do so like that blouse you’re wearing. So many colours! So daring! You must tell me where you got it from.’ Adelaide adjusted her Alice band. ‘Oh, and, now before I forget, how long have you been having an affair with my husband?’

Another good novelisation of an early New Who story – I doubt that we will ever get the full sequence in novel form, but I appreciate what we have. Lidster has taken the sequence of events in the script and given us a book whose two halves correspond to the two episodes; but he has added a lot of background on the various characters, including the skeevy Oliver Charles (married to Adelaide and flinging with Janet) and also Toshiko Sato, who appears in the very first scene filmed for New Who, in the lab with the dead alien pig.
