I’m Scottish and the books that first came to mind for me are “Trainspotting” (though I haven’t read it) and Ian Rankin’s Rebus crime novels. Anything by Sir Walter Scott, also. And, yes, “Kidnapped”.
Overseas friends often mention the Diana Gabaldon series to me but I know very few Scottish people who have read them. They’re not the kind of thing that would interest me.
