This was the first of the Thirteenth Doctor series of comics from Titan, the rest of which I had read and enjoyed, so coming back to the beginning now. This also exhausts the massive store of Doctor Who comics that I got from a Humble Bundle purchase in 2022, and it was certainly worth the rather minimal amount I paid for the lot.

This was an excellent note to finish on, as well. It’s a Christmas story, so reading it in the sunmmer wasn’t ideal; but Houser, who is one of the great Who comics writers, catches the Thirteenth Doctor’s voice absolutely perfectly. There is a fun plot as well to do with memory loss and a fake Santa Claus, but really you’re enjoying the ride. You can get Time out of Mind here.

This brings to an end my shelf of books that I acquired in 2022.

I have got the gap down from 8 years for the 2010 books to two and a half years now.

My pile of unread books from 2023 is not as big as the 2022 pile was, only 25 of them – 14 non-fiction, 10 sf, and one poetry collection. Starting off the list are:

  • Bridging Worlds, ed. Oghenechovwe Donald Ekpeki – the shortest book of those that I acquired in 2023 and have not yet read
  • Brian W. Aldiss, by Paul Kincaid – the non-fiction book that has lingered longest unread on my shelves
  • Twenty-first Century Blues, by Steve Walker – the sf book that has lingered longest unread on my shelves
  • Last Exit, by Max Gladstone – the top unread book of those I acquired in 2023.
