Second frame of third chapter:

I hugely enjoyed Jeff Smith’s Bone when it first came out, but am sorry to say that I was less impressed with this. It’s the first volume of two about Tuki, an ancient human hunter on the African plains, who is seeking a mythic herd of buffalo and accompanied by three children and by assorted hominids of other species. There is a lot of magic, which makes this a palaeohuman fantasy in a way. I felt that it lacked the humanity and humor that made Bone such a great work, and didn’t really get what the story was supposed to be about. Other people liked it more.
